NEW YORK—The Cyprus Action Network of America (CANA) letter writing protest campaign has some good news to report. The European Microwave Association (EuMA) has withdrawn technical cosponsorship of the Turkish Microwave event in the illegal pseudo-university in illegal Turkish-occupied Cyprus. We are writing to thank you for your decision to withdraw cosponsorship of the conference in the so-called “Eastern Mediterranean University“ which is in buildings and lands that were stolen from Greek-Cypriots in the barbaric and illegal Turkish military-invasion of Cyprus in 1974. The fact that Turkey continues to violate international law and human rights by denying the return of this property to its legal owners by brute military force is contrary to the laws and principles of European law and civilization.
The attempts by the Turkish goverment to deny its ongoing illegal military-occupation of the territory of Cyprus by outright lies and misinformation to the world is consistent with Turkey’s mechanism of denial and cycle of genocide. At this time Turkey continues to be an aggressor to little Cyprus, continues to deny its responsibility for crimes against humanity in Cyprus, continues to attempt to wipe out cultures and religions which are not Turkish-and only-Turkish. All of the towns,streets and villages where this event was to take place have seen their original Greek-Cypriot place names eradicated. Throughout occupied-Cyprus Turkey has forcibly converted Greek and Armenian churches and monasteries to hotels and casinos, its even gone after our dead by desecrating our very cemetaries.
By not allowing the illegal Turkish-occupiers to use EuMa “as a political statement and misused for political purposes” you have brought a semblance of justice and hope. It is the hope that hundreds of thousands of Greek-Cypriots will someday return to their homes, towns and villages. It is the hope of the family of the peaceful Greek-Cypriot demonstrator Solomos Solomou murdered in 1996 by “Minister of Agriculture” and illegal Turkish settler Kenan Akin. It is the hope of the families of the hundreds of children and women raped by Turkish forces in 1974. It is the hope of thousands of innocent Greek-Cypriots who were killed and maimed by the Turkish military and Turkish anti-Cypriot terrorist organizations in 1974. It is the hope that one day we will see justice.
In memory and in hope for them all, I bow to your humanity Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Heinrich.

Thanks for your email. We understand your concern. You should know that, at the time of our decision as to sponsorship, we were not informed that the conference is to be held in the northern part of Cyprus.
EUMA is not a political organisation and we want to serve the entire microwave community and not a political purpose. According to what we learned, however, supporting as an international association a conference in the northern part of Cyprus, even if intended to be a purely scientific support, will be seen also as a political statement and misused for political purposes. This contradicts our goals.
Therefore, EuMA has withdrawn technical cosponsorship of this conference.
